Early wireless- / Saxon 4 valve ReceiverUpdated4/10/05 |
Saxon 4 valve, c1926. This is a very unusual, possibly unique example of a wireless set made in Blackpool.
It looks mid-1920s, but differs from the usual ‘back of the shop’ construction in that it does not use bought-in parts. Everything from transformers to resistors is marked “Saxon Radio”, and many of the parts may have been made in-house. The cabinet is large and of oak inlaid with marquetry to the door panels. and has a top with a glass panel to view the works.
The lower compartment is for batteries.
Some old worm to the plywood back, and one foot damaged, otherwise all good and original. Extremely rare set.
