Gramophones & Phonographs / GuineaphoneUpdated16/3/03 |

Guineaphone miniature folding gramophone, 1920s. This niniature gramophone uses a principle similar to the Lumiere diaphragm system, in that there is no soundbox as such but the needle movement is imparted directly to the centre of a card cone, like a loudspeaker cone. In this case the cone is removable, and folds flat for storage in the lid, making the thickness of the case about 2". (Other dimensions about 12" square.) The handle winds from the top of the case.
This is a rare machine, and is in superb original condition, the delicate card cone being illustrated with superb Art Deco illustrations in colour- all in perfect condition. With original instruction card in the lid. A superb piece of some rarity and interest. It plays quite well, with a mellow tone.
